There are 12 categories of species on the site. We allow all sorts of markings on our characters but some species have specific base colors that must be followed. They are not allowed to have mutations (horns, wings, etc) but they are allowed to have bi-colored and strange colored eyes. Each species has it's own group, territory and leaders in the city. Please be sure to follow the proper specifications for each species and check the bans sidebar. Most species stay to their own but some closely related species (canines, felines, avians) are allied. Most shifters are most comfortable in their own group and usually do not have a problem wit nudity or sleeping in big "puppy piles". Most believe it strengthens the bond between members. Shifters are not tied to the moon but only a few species can be created by birth and not infection.
WOLF
Group Name: Pack Territory: Gilbert Other Names: Lukoi Base Color: Gray, White, Black, Russet, Brown Size: Add 2 to 3 feet to height/length and 50 to 100 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Infection is High. Can not be born though if a mother manages to carry a baby to full term, she does risk infecting it. This is not passed though the womb but rather through breastfeeding, an accidental scratch etc.
Info: Each Lukoi pack, the name used by the werewolf pack to describe themselves, has a special place of power called the Lupanar. During the full moon the pack assembles there and celebrates by shifting into their animal forms and hunting. The Lupanar is their primary gathering place, where meetings are held, traditions observed, formal challenges are made and succession fights are held. Each Lupanar is distinctive depending on the terrain and the pack personality.
Pack standing is established by being dominant over other wolves. Dominance is established by challenging and either fighting or backing down other pack members. Dominance fights are rarely to the death and sometimes are psychological battles. If the werewolf being challenged does not wish to fight, they simply acknowledge the challenger's dominance and the confrontation is over. The victor rises in rank and assumes the spot vacated by the defeated.
To ask for protection, a wolf can petition a dominant by brushing up against the dominant. If it is granted, the dominant will touch the submissive which then signals to any other lycanthropes in the area that he or she will protect that petitioner from their enemies/pursuers. When a werewolf asks someone for protection they are admitting the other is dominant to them. If the wolf is given this protection, they are in effect fully under the command of the person giving the protection. All other wolves will either simply acknowledge this protection and move on, or challenge the protection.
DOG Group Name: Run Territory: Glendale Other Names: none Colors: Acceptable colors for their breed Size: Add 1-2 feet to breed height/length and 24 to 75 pounds to weight. Way of Infection: Birth only

TIGER Group Name: Streak Territory: Peoria Other Names: None Base Color: Black, Blue, Gold, Gray, Orange, Red, White (stripes have been left off of examples) Size: Add 2 to 3 feet to height/length and 100 to 175 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Rate of infection is low but they are more often born.
Info: There are only a handful of Streaks within the United States, and Phoenix houses the second largest. For the most part, they all keep to themselves. Their culture is divided about purebloods, inherited lycanthropes, and attacked. Being given tiger lycanthropy is seen as a reward for a job well done. They think it is a sin to give it to someone not worthy. Tiger lycanthropy is one of the harder-to-catch strains. It is also one of the few that can be inherited, as well as caught. Tigers tend not to announce they are infected and entire families may stay in "the closet." Tigers have forced their Streak members to marry other clan members to keep the strain amongst themselves. Most have arranged marriages; they have been known to abduct known tigers, if an arranged marriage cannot be done. They are also a matriarchal (led by a woman/queen) society, unlike most of the other lycanthrope societies which are patriarchal (led by a male/king).
Along with this incredibly rare form of lycanthrope, there are also many powers that these creatures can posses. Males usually have what is known as the ‘call.’ This is where they are able to dominant tigresses in order to attract lovers and eventually a mate; the stronger the tiger, the stronger the call. Many of their other powers were related to the elements. Certain clans were able to control water, air, earth, fire, and even electricity. Some even have the ability to call tigers of the same color as they are.
LION Group Name: Pride Territory: Scottsdale Other Names: None Base Color: Females only come in tan and are not carries for color. Should they infect a male, the male's automatic color is a tan mane. Males who have been infected by males receive their mane color. Males come in Black, Red, Silver, Tan and White Size: Add 2 to 3 feet to height/length and 100 to 175 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Infection rate is moderate.
Info: In many cases, some Prides are ran by the Regina and not their Rex because all the males want to do is fight and be dominant, while the females worry about the Pride as a group.
Like wild lions, werelion Prides consist of 5 or 6 females other than the Regina, and only 1 or 2 other males than the Rex. While in animal form, the pride isn't that active. Most of the time is spent resting or eating; although the male lions are even less active than the females. Although everyone hunts in the pride, the lionesses are the ones that catch the majority of the food. Oftentimes it is tradition for the male lions to eat first, and it is left up to the Rex to decide who will consume the rest. So while all lionesses hunt, some may not partake in eating.
Partitions for protection are made by the weaker lion brushing their head under the stronger ones neck. If the dominant lion accepts, a firm bite is placed on the submissive one's neck and acceptance of protection is granted. If the partition is denied, a fight usually ensues until the submissive one stands down.
Dominance is an important things within Prides. Usually there are only 2 or 3 dominant males and rarely any dominant females. Although, the Regina (if in charge) is said to be even more dominant than her Rex.
LEOPARD Group Name: Pard Territory: Buckeye Other Names: None Base Color: Colors are based on the natural sub-species. Size: Add 1 to 2 feet to height/length and 50 to 125 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Infection rate is high. Can not be born though if a mother manages to carry a baby to full term, she does risk infecting it.
Info: The principle social characteristic of the pard members is a need for physical contact as a source of emotional reassurance. To ask for protection, a leopard can petition a dominant by brushing up against the dominant. If it is granted, the dominant will touch the submissive which then signals to any other lycanthropes in the area that he or she will protect that petitioner from their enemies/pursuers. When a wereleopard asks someone for protection they are admitting the other is dominant to them. If the leopard is given this protection, they are in effect fully under the command of the person giving the protection. All other leopards will either simply acknowledge this protection and move on, or challenge the protection.
The pard does not have their own place where they meet in the wild. Most of the leopards live together under the roof of their Nimir-Raj and Nimir-Ra.

SNAKE (NAGA) Group Name: Nest Territory: Goodyear Other Names: None Base Color: Any acceptable color for the subspecies Size: Add 6 to 8 feet to length and 150 to 200 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Rate of infection is very low but they are more often born.
Info: The weresnake strain of lycanthropy is one that is usually inherited. This means that the person is born with the ability to shift into their lycan form. Often, shifting does not begin until puberty is reached.
It is thought that many of these forms began as variants on the European ‘family guardians.’ Initially they worshipped a man by the name of Orlando King because he can take so many forms, and half of their tribe came to the United States with King. Most of them were slain, but a few remained…making this race one
Weresnakes appear human-shaped, but have scaly skins and hands that end in claws. They have stripes on their scales, and some have a base color of olive green. Their eyes are metallic coppery gold.
When they move, their movements are somewhat birdlike. When they die, they do not go into pure human shape like other lycans. This may be a result of spending so much time in animal form.
Innately, there is a very deadly touch to these species. Although some of their animal might be small, they have the ability to inflict damage far worse than a punch or scratch. Blindness, paralysis, poisoning have all been known to come to those that stand in the way of these exotic creatures.
BEAR Group Name: Troupe Territory: Paradise Valley Other Names: None Base Color: Any acceptable color for the subspecies Size: Add 1 to 2 feet to length and 150 to 200 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Rate of infection is moderate. Can not be born.
Info: The werebear is a moderate for of infection that is largely caught by attack, more so than anything else. There are not many vaccinations against this strain so there are few whom have gotten it that way.
Largely mysterious creatures they live in small groups ran by a matriarch or head female. Young males are said to remain with their troupe until puberty when most leave. There are not many dominant males in their community and those that are, are mostly rouges.
Troupes do not often interact with other groups of lycanthropes except for official business. They do not have a strong numbers presence in the city though werebears, even on their own are not something to be messed with as they are one of the larger shifters.
FOX Group Name: Cache Territory: Mesa Other Names: None Base Color: Red, Black, Gray, Silver, Blue and White Size: Add 1 to 2 feet to length and 50 to 75 pounds to weight of the natural species. Way of Infection: Rate of infection is high.
Info: Often dwelling in secluded woodlands, werefox are rarely seen in numbers as they prefer to act alone. Their only purpose is pampering themselves and making sure they have an heir or heiress to raise. In hybrid form, werefoxes use their claws and their poisonous bite and sometimes long swords. They rarely use their animal form for battle, but then they may use their claws.
In the cache, most are loosely ranked and there is not much social structure in the pack aside from the head pair. For those that happen to be in the group, they are very protective of one another, often giving their lives to ensure the life of another.
Relatively small creatures, they are more known for their sheer numbers and political rather than strength.
RAT Group Name: Rodere Territory: Florence Other Names: None Base Color: White, Gray, Tan an Black Size: See description Way of Infection: Rate of infection is high.
Info: The lycanthropy rat virus is highly contagious. It, along with the wolf and fox variants, is one of the easiest types of lycanthropy to catch.
Wererats have two form available to them, and retain their intellect in both. Those powerful enough have a third, hybrid man-beast form. The original human form appear normal to a casual observer, but display a feeling of contained energy to those who know what to look for. The second form is that of a full rat, but a giant one the size of a German Shepherd dog.
The hybrid form, available only to the strongest, may be that of a humanoid rat, covered in fur the color of their human hair, with long curved tails that lash around when they are angry. They walk on the balls of their elongated feet, with both hands and feet ending in sharp claws. Their heads become narrow and rat like, with black button eyes, wire-like whiskers, long pink tongues and several inch long, blade-like incisors; combined to a mouth not suited for human speech, these teeth make speaking difficult to most rats.
In the hybrid form they prefer wearing loose cut-off jeans or maternity dresses to conceal their still noticeable sexual organs; however some wererats seem to embrace their animal side and go naked, flaunting themselves. They can communicate with one another through squeaking.

SWAN and BIRD OF PREY Group Name: Flock Territory: Queen Creek Other Names: None Base Color: Any acceptable for the sub species Size: See description Way of Infection: Rate of infection is low for birds of prey. Swans must be born.
Info: Although relatively rare, they aren’t as rare as tigers. Usually around 7-10 swans can be found in one region. The leaders of the Flock of a particular region are termed as the Prince and Princess. Due to the nature of wild counterpart, they are usually mates and are in a monogamous relationship. The Swan King and Queen control an entire generation of swans, and generally travel a lot to visit the different Flocks. In most cases, as they grow older and stay in avian form more often, their hair is replaced by fine feathers.
Although Avians tend to be a bit weaker than most of the predatory shapeshifters, they can still defend themselves quite well. When in avian form, they have a wingspan that can reach almost up to 10ft. (which can be quite intimidating) and have a nail beak - a plate of hard, horny tissue at the tip of the beak, and is often bent to form a hook.
PREY ANIMALS Group Name: N/A Territory: N/A Other Names: None Base Color: Any acceptable for the sub species Size: See description Way of Infection: Rate of infection is low and uncommon.
Info: Prey animals are one of the most rare of infections and can only come from a bad batch of antidotes as many used the weaker, prey animal strains to attempt to lower infection. Most prey animals are about the same size as their natural counter parts, or maybe a little bit bigger. They are usually rouges and have no official group though sometimes a predatory group or avian group will take them in.
